We know Marcus Stroman is the newest starter for the New York Yankees and now we know the contract details, per the New York Post.

Stroman signed a two-year, $37 million deal to join the Yankees. That deal came with a $1 million signing bonus.

From there he will be paid $18 million in 2024 and $18 million in 2025.

The deal comes with an option for the 2026 season and it belongs to Stroman. But he can only trigger it if he throws 140 innings in 2025. That option is also for $18 million.

Stroman opted out of the final year of his deal with the Chicago Cubs, an option that would have paid him more than $20 million in 2024.

Stroman knows the ropes in New York. He played for the Mets from 2019-21 before he moved on to the Cubs.

Stroman fits into the back end of the Yankees’ potential rotation, which is anchored by reigning American League Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole. The Yankees also have Carlos Rodón, Nestor Cortes and Clarke Schmidt.

Rodón, who had an injury-marred first year with the Yankees, is already in Tampa and working out for the 2024 season. Spring Training doesn’t start until next month.

For his career, Stroman has a record of 77-76 with a 3.45 ERA.

But last season he had an up-and-down campaign. In the first half of last season, the right-hander went 9-6 with a 2.19 ERA in 19 starts, striking out 98 and walking 41. That led to his selection to the All-Star Game for the second time.

A hip injury put him on the injured list in early August, followed by an unusual injury for a pitcher, a right rib cartilage fracture. He returned in early September and worked out of the bullpen as the Cubs were fighting for a playoff berth.

In that second half things went south. as he went 1-3 in eight appearances (six starts) with a 8.63 ERA in 24 innings.
