The New York Mets lost on Wednesday night against the Chicago Cubs (4-2) but young catcher Francisco Alvarez continues to impress.

He went 2-3 with a two-run homer off of Marcus Stroman to raise his batting average to .253.

The rookie catcher has now homered in three of his last four games and has made a little history in the process.

ESPN Stats & Info had the information on Twitter:

Francisco Alvarez now has 3 home runs over his last 4 games. At 21 years old, he's the youngest catcher to hit 3 home runs in a 4-game span since Joe Mauer in 2004.

We're a fan of niche history here at Fastball and FanNation, so this one certainly applies.

Alvarez made his major league debut in 2022, playing in just five games but since being recalled this season, he's taken over the starting catchers job.

He now has six home runs and 13 RBI on the season through 87 at-bats.

Alvarez was one of the top prospects in baseball heading into the season, but has since graduated out of prospect eligibility.

He was signed as an international free agent in 2018 for nearly $3 million.

The Mets are currently 25-25 and tied for second place in the National League East with the Miami Marlins. They trail the first-place Braves by 5.5 games.

The Mets will finish out a series with the Cubs on Thursday at 7:40 p.m. ET before going to Colorado on Friday.

The Mets and Rockies will play at 8:40 with Max Scherzer on the mound on Friday.
