One of the New York Yankees' most intriguing prospects was unable to play on Tuesday.

According to Greg Joyce of New York Post Sports, Oswald Peraza was supposed to play against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday afternoon, but was scratched due to tightness in his right shoulder. Yankees manager Aaron Boone believes this is a "day-to-day" situation and expects Peraza to be back by the end of the week.

Peraza's versatility in the infield allows him to play second base, third base, or shortstop. With him not available, the Yankees started Jorbit Vivas at second, Anthony Volpe at shortstop, and Oswaldo Cabrera at third in a 4-2 loss to the Rays this afternoon.

Although this injury is seemingly minor, it is still disappointing to see Peraza sidelined as the Yankees are still trying to determine if the 22-year-old infielder will be part of their future. Peraza is highly regarded in the team's farm system, and his name has been mentioned consistently in trade talks, but he has only played in 70 games at the major league level.

Due to the team's crowded infield with Gleyber Torres at second, Volpe at shortstop, and DJ LeMahieu at third, Peraza has primarily been used as a bench player in the majors; this may be why he has been stored at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for as long as he has, and also why he's frequently mentioned in trades.

Nonetheless, Peraza is currently trying to prove his worth to the Yankees organization and show that he's major league ready, but with this latest injury news, he will likely have to wait until Thursday or Friday to make his next impression.
