Former Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ryan Goins has taken a job as an infield coach with the Los Angeles Angels . He'll join the staff under new manager Ron Washington, according to Ken Rosenthal of 'The Athletic.'

Ryan Goins will be the Angels’ new infield coach, sources tell @TheAthletic.

Goins just officially announced his retirement as a player a few weeks ago. He's 35-years old. He had said in his retirement announcement that he was planning to enter coaching full-time.

He played for the Blue Jays from 2013-2017, seeing action on two different teams that went to the postseason. He appeared in the 2015 and 2016 playoffs for the Jays, both teams that went to the ALCS.

A lifetime .228 hitter, he was a prominent starter for both the 2015 and 2017 Jays. After that, he spent time with the Royals (2018) and White Sox (2019-20).

He had a minor league deal with the Royals last offseason, but didn't appear in games for Kansas City.

The Angels appear to be a team in turnover. They let go of manager Phil Nevin a few weeks ago, opening the door for Washington to get hired. They also appear set to lose superstar Shohei Ohtani in free agency. If they do, a rebuild could be on the way. Ohtani has not made any decisions officially though.

Los Angeles finished fourth as it was in the deeply-talented American League West, and without Ohtani, they don't appear close to the Astros, Rangers or Mariners in the division.
