Noah Syndergaard reportedly underwent successful Tommy John surgery

Despite COVID-19 putting a halt to many nonessential surgeries around the world, New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard underwent successful Tommy John Surgery on Thursday, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Syndergaard underwent the surgery in Florida. It was deemed essential by doctors due to the impact it would have on his career if he waited to get it done.

Regular recovery time for Tommy John surgery is about 12-16 months, which means Syndergaard will miss the entire 2020 season, if it's played, and part of the 2021 season.

The 27-year-old struggled in 2019 with a 4.28 ERA and a 10-8 record. Unfortunately, the Mets now will be without their No. 2 starter behind Jacob deGrom, and even though Syndergaard struggled in 2019, he was poised to bounce back in 2020.

The Mets starting rotation now will consist of deGrom, Marcus Stroman, Rick Porcello, Michael Wacha and Steven Matz.

After ending the 2019 campaign third in the NL East with an 86-76 record, the Mets could potentially be much better in 2020.
