As we wait for the evening slate of games to get going on this Monday, it's fun to look back a little bit at baseball history.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum tweeted about an incredible "On this day" on Monday:

Few batters inspired trepidation like Andre Dawson, who on this date in 1990 set a record when he was issued five intentional walks in the @Cubs 2-1 win over the Reds.

Dawson was walked five times by Reds manager Lou Piniella in a game that went 16-innings. He still went 1-3 at the plate in the game.

Barry Bonds has the record for most intentional walks in a nine-inning game (4) but Dawson's overall record still stands.

The Hall of Fame also put out a story on the memory, complete with a quote from Piniella at the time:

“Hey, I don’t need to tell you that he’s been hot,” Reds manager Lou Piniella told the Associated Press. “And it’s not like this is the first time the guy has been on fire. So I figured, if somebody else is going to beat us, fine. But not him.”

Dawson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010 after a career that spanned 21 years.

He spent 11 years with the Montreal Expos, six with the Cubs, two with the Boston Red Sox and two with the Florida Marlins.

He hit 438 career home runs and stole 314 bases. He had a lifetime batting average of .279.

He was an eight-time All-Star selection, an eight-time Gold Glove winner, a Rookie of the Year (1977) and an MVP (1987).
