One remarkable stat tells the tale of Rays' record-tying start

There are plenty of reasons behind the Tampa Bay Rays' red-hot undefeated start to the 2023 campaign, but one remarkable stat tells the story.

Through 13 games, the Rays have recorded more runs (101) than strikeouts (94), per Fox Sports.

It's nearly impossible for a team to score more than 100 runs in such a short period without getting production from their entire lineup, something the Rays have excelled at early on.

On Thursday, the Rays improved to 13-0, tying the MLB record for wins to start a season. Tampa Bay walked away 9-3 winners over the Boston Red Sox, thanks mainly to a well-rounded effort at the plate. Eight Rays tallied at least a hit on Thursday, six of whom also batted in runs.

Designated hitter Harold Ramirez led the way, finishing 3-for-4 at the dish with three RBI. Meanwhile, second baseman Brandon Lowe ended the day 2-for-4, knocking in two runs.

Thursday's offensive display has become common for the Rays over the season's first two weeks. According to Sarah Langs of ESPN, the Rays' +71 run differential is the third-highest in MLB history through 13 games, trailing only the 1884 New York Gothams (+73) and St. Louis Maroons (+115).

If the Rays can come away with a win on the road Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays, they'll overtake the Milwaukee Brewers (1987) and Atlanta Braves (1982) for the most consecutive wins to begin a season.
