Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco (5) Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Rays recently released a statement regarding one of their star players facing serious allegations after a social media post.  They indicated that they were made aware of a situation and are working with MLB  as it conducts its due diligence.  The player who is facing these allegations is shortstop Wander Franco.

Tampa Bay Rays star Wander Franco is facing serious allegations after a social media post.

On Sunday, social media posts went viral that involved Wander Franco and an inappropriate relationship with a minor.  Manager Kevin Cash had Franco off for a rest day and did not wish to further comment on the situation.  Before Sundays game Franco had started 20 consecutive games and 39 of the teams last 40 games.

This is the second time this season that Wander Franco has been in the media.  Earlier this year he was benched for not being a good teammate, working hard, and needing to better control his emotions.  Franco had previously signed an 11 year, $182M deal with the Rays that could keep him in the organization until 2033.

These most recent allegations are quite serious and could have long term implications for both Franco and the Tampa Bay Rays.
