Baltimore Orioles right-hander Matt Harvey is currently sitting through a 60-game suspension that was connected to the trial of former Los Angeles Angels clubhouse employee Eric Kay, who was sentenced to prison after findings revealed that he distributed percocets to the late Tyler Skaggs.

Skaggs passed away in 2019 as a result of the incident, and when Kay was sentenced to prison, Harvey was issued a suspension.

However, one Orioles insider has an update on the suspended veteran pitcher.

Andy Kostka revealed on Twitter that Harvey has begun a rehab assignment.

His suspension is only for MLB and higher level minor league games, and he is still allowed to pitch at lower levels.

Harvey Near End Of Suspension

Kostka notes that the suspension is retroactive to April 29.

At this point, 47 games have been played by Triple-A Norfolk since then, meaning Harvey has just 13 games left on his suspension.

Harvey returned to the Orioles on a minor league deal after the lockout was over.

Last season with the Orioles, Harvey posted a 6-14 record with an ERA north of six in 28 starts.

Once known as “The Dark Knight”, Harvey has fallen far from where he once was during his days with the New York Mets.

Arm surgery in 2016 set him back pretty far and he has not been the same ever since.

In fact, every season since 2015, he has posted an ERA above four.

Soon though, the Orioles might have a spot for him in their rotation, especially since John Means is on the shelf for the remainder of the season.

We’ll see if Harvey can come back stronger after his suspension and return to his old form.

The Orioles are in desperate need of pitching.
