Padres OF Wil Myers placed on 10-day IL with right knee inflammation, surgery possible
The San Diego Padres placed outfielder Wil Myers on the 10-day injured list with right knee inflammation on Friday.
While Myers doesn't believe the injury will keep him out of action long, arthroscopic surgery on the knee is reportedly still an option.
"I really thought we were getting into a good place, but the better it felt the more work he was trying to do to get ready, and just got a setback with it," Padres manager Bob Melvin said, speaking about Myers' injury. "So unfortunately, we're gonna have to take a pause here and just trying to get him right."
This season for the Padres, Myers is hitting .234/.276/.306 with a home run and 19 RBI in 32 games.
The right knee injury has hampered Myers lately; he's batted .167/.231/.439 with an RBI over his last six games.
The Padres called-up outfielder Brent Rooker to fill Myers' roster spot.
Rooker, 27, batted .242/.357/.568 with nine home runs and 23 RBI in 26 games for El Paso this season.
In April, the Padres acquired Rooker and reliever Taylor Rogers in a trade with the Minnesota Twins in exchange for starting pitcher Chris Paddack and reliever Emilio Pagan.
A first-round pick by the Twins in 2017, Rooker has played 65 major league games over two seasons, batting .212/.299/.413 with 10 home runs and 52 RBI.
