After not finding major league jobs over the course of the offseason, veterans Jose Peraza and Abraham Almonte have elected to head to the Mexican League for 2024.

Kiley McDaniel of ESPN had the news on social media:

Two former big leaguers are headed to the Mexican League, per source. SS Jose Peraza is going to Yucatan and OF Abraham Almonte is joining Tabasco.

They will join Robinson Cano and Harold Castro as former major leaguers to recently sign on in Mexico.

The 29-year-old Peraza has spent seven years in the big leagues with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox and New York Mets. He has not appeared in a major league game since 2021 but played in the minors in 2022 and 2023 with the Yankees, Red Sox and Mets at various points.

Over his seven-year major league career, he is a .266 hitter with 35 homers and 79 stolen bases. A versatile infielder, he hit a career-high 14 homers back in 2018 with the Reds.

As for Almonte, he's now 34-years-old. He's appeared in games with the Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres, Cleveland Guardians, Arizona Diamondbacks, Kansas City Royals, Mets, Atlanta Braves and Red Sox.

He's appeared in big league games each year from 2013-2023 and is a lifetime .233 hitter with 24 homers and 27 stolen bases. He can play each of the three outfield positions.

If either or both players perform well in the Mexican League, there's always a chance that they could find themselves back in the majors at somepoint this season - or next year.
