Despite a lack of consistency from parts of the St. Louis Cardinals lineup, there is one guy that they’ve been able to count on all season long.

Paul Goldschmidt is proving to be worth every penny the Cardinals paid him when they extended his contract shortly after his arrival.

He’s hitting .340 with 19 home runs and 65 RBI.

That OPS of 1.040 is pretty crazy too.

He’s been the MVP of the Cardinals season so far and is the frontrunner for the National League MVP Award.

High Heat Stats tweeted some of Goldschmidt’s stats over his previous 162 games, and let’s just say that they’re pretty insane when you look at them.

Goldy’s Case For MVP

Goldschmidt really is the frontrunner for NL MVP now.

He’s one of the key reasons that the Cardinals have scored the fifth-most runs in all of baseball and fourth in the National League.

The Texas State product has led the way for St. Louis as they continue to make some noise and pose a real threat to the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central division.

He turned it on in May after a poor month of April, but since then, he has been perhaps the most consistent hitter in all of baseball.

The NL Player of the Month for May has been nearly impossible to strike out or keep off the bases in any capacity.

He can hit.

Period.

It’s been a tough go of things lately for St. Louis, but if they’re going to break out of their slump, Goldschmidt staying hot will be a major key to that.

He and Nolan Arenado have formed perhaps the best duo in all of baseball and they have led the Cardinals to some very big moments this season.
