Phillies activate former No. 1 pick Mickey Moniak

On Monday, the Philadelphia Phillies activated centerfielder Mickey Moniak from the 10-day injured list.

Moniak, 24, has been out of action with a hairline fracture in his left hand suffered in the Phillies' final spring training game back in April.

The Phillies sent down starting pitcher Bailey Falter to make room for Moniak on the major league roster.

A former No. 1 pick by the Phillies in 2016, Moniak made his major league debut in 2020. Last season, Moniak played 21 games, batting .091/.167/.348 with a home run and three RBI in 37 plate appearances.

Moniak receives the call-up after eight combined rehab games at Double-A Reading and Single-A Clearwater. During his rehab stint, he batted .394/.421/.667 with a home run and eight RBI.

The Phillies hope Moniak can inject some life into their lineup at the center field position, where Odubel Herrera, Matt Vierling and Roman Quinn have struggled.

Herrera has seen the most action in center field for the Phillies, playing in 30 games. He's batted .270/.298/.494 with three home runs and 12 RBI in 30 games.  Meanwhile, Vierling and Quinn have combined for only 14 hits and seven RBI in 54 games in center field.
