Phillies broadcast trolls Mets legend Keith Hernandez with new graphic

The feud between the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets legend and broadcaster Keith Hernandez isn't cooling off this summer.

As Jared Greenspan explained for the New York Post, Hernandez raised eyebrows when he said during a recent broadcast that he "hates" working Phillies-Mets games and claimed he went so far as to ask the front office of SNY, the television home of the Amazins, to avoid having to call such contests.

"They never seem to disappoint," Hernandez said of the Phillies at that time. "Over the years — and they’re hot right now, so I’d like to see them — but as far as fundamentally, defensively, the Phillies have always been just not up to it."

Hernandez hit out at the Phillies' defensive fundamentals again during that same broadcast. "But the fundies just don’t cut it with me," he said.

As noted by The Post's Ethan Sears, NBC Sports Philadelphia has found a unique way to fire back at Hernandez. From now on, the channel will show a "Keith Hernandez Approved" graphic on the screen whenever the Phillies successfully execute a highlight-reel defensive play:

This is all good for a laugh, but the upcoming weekend series between the Phillies and Mets in Philadelphia is no joke for either team. The first-place Mets went into Wednesday evening holding a three-and-a-half-game lead over the second-place Atlanta Braves in the National League East standings, but the clubs still had two matchups against each other remaining.

The Phillies, meanwhile, trailed the Mets by 10 games but possessed a wild card playoff spot amid Wednesday afternoon's MLB action.

Additionally, it was learned earlier on Wednesday that Phillies starter Noah Syndergaard will once again avoid facing the Mets, his former club, because he is receiving an extra day of rest that will keep him a spectator through the weekend.
