Phillies' Bryce Harper may go on IL with sore wrist?

Philadelphia Phillies star slugger Bryce Harper first injured his left wrist when he was struck by a 97-mph fastball in last Wednesday's game versus the St. Louis Cardinals but returned to the lineup for Sunday's matchup against the rival New York Mets.

As Todd Zolecki noted for the MLB website, though, Harper aggravated the injury when he lost his footing running the bases on Sunday and missed Monday's series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 28-year-old, who has now missed four of five games, may land on the injured list, if only as a precaution.

"We’ll see what we think the next move is," Phillies manager Joe Girardi told reporters ahead of Monday's contest. "We’re hopeful that it’s not an IL, but obviously we’ve got to wait and see how he feels and what our doctors think."

In 24 games this season, Harper is batting .317 with six home runs and 10 RBIs. According to ESPN stats, he began the evening 10th in MLB with a 1.043 OPS.

Meanwhile, the Phillies started the first midweek of May at +400 betting odds to win the National League East title.
