Phillies closer Corey Knebel to be evaluated for shoulder tightness

The Philadelphia Phillies won for the ninth straight time on Saturday — all since firing manager Joe Girardi — but it wasn't all good news out of the City of Brotherly Love.

A 2017 All-Star with the Milwaukee Brewers, Knebel is in his first season with the Phillies and has grabbed ahold of the closer's role entering the summer. Entering Saturday's slate of MLB games, the righty was tied for the league lead in games finished with 23.

Knebel is 2-4 with a 3.24 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 23 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched in his 25 appearances and has earned 11 saves.

After making his big league debut in 2014 with the Detroit Tigers and recording eight outings in relief, the 30-year-old spent five seasons in Milwaukee. Knebel pitched in 27 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021 before signing with Philadelphia in December.
