Just one week after Jake Cave was named the International League’s Player of the Week he was named the IL’s Player of the Month for May on Monday.

Cave, 30, is playing for the Philadelphia Phillies’ Triple-A affiliate in Lehigh Valley.

Cave led the league in average (.404), runs (33), doubles (16), slugging percentage (.798) and OPS (1.298). He was second in hits (38) and third in total bases (75) and on-base percentage (.500).

He had a 21-game hitting streak from May 4-28 and posted 12 multi-hit games during the streak.

The award was a recognition of Cave’s incredible month after he started the season with the Phillies but was optioned in early May.

When he won the Player of the Week award, he batted .474 (9-for-19) with a .630 on-base percentage and 1.211 slugging percentage. He hit five doubles, three home runs, drove in seven runs and scored 11 runs. He also walked seven times and struck out four times.

The Phillies claimed Cave off waivers in December and he made the Opening-Day roster. With the Phillies he batted .222 with a home run and nine RBI before he was sent down to Lehigh Valley.
