Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Cristian Pache underwent surgery on the torn meniscus in his right knee and he’ll be sidelined four-to-six weeks, according to the team.

Pache’s surgery was performed by Dr. Steve Cohen in Philadelphia.

Pache had been red hot, going 9-for-19 while hitting three doubles and one home run before suffering the injury in Houston. As Pache stepped toward third, he stopped.

While it didn’t initially appear to be serious, the fact that surgery was needed proved that it indeed was an issue.

“I feel for him and for the club because he was really playing well, really improving,” manager Rob Thomson said.

Dalton Guthrie was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take Pache’s spot on the roster.

Pache struggled mightily in stints with the Atlanta Braves and the Oakland Athletics.

But Pache appeared to have clicked with Phillies hitting coach Kevin Long before the knee injury. The Phillies have to hope that he’ll come back stronger than ever.

For now, all the Phillies can do is wait and hope.
