Phillies infielder makes MLB history despite going hit-less against Guardians

Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Bryson Stott went hit-less in Sunday's 8-5 win over the Cleveland Guardians, but despite this, he made unique MLB history.

Stott became only the 12th player in history to draw four walks and steal three bases in a game and the first since Darren Lewis in 1991, per Baseball Reference

While Stott's rare feat helped him join a list featuring a few lesser-known names, it also includes Hall of Famers Rickey Henderson (1989), Ozzie Smith (1984), Lou Brock (1968) and Richie Ashburn (1955).

Stott's had a modest six-game hit streak snapped on Saturday. However, as he showed during his 0-for-1 outing Sunday, he can still be productive at the plate even if base hits aren't coming. That isn't to say Stott can't put the bat on the ball. Through 93 games, he is slashing .304/.348/.436 with nine home runs and 36 RBI.

"He's another who is just a baseball player," Phillies manager Rob Thomson said via Tim Kelly of Phillies Nation. "He impacts the game every night it seems, in one way or another."

While many in the Phillies lineup have struggled to stay consistent or even catch fire, Stott has been a calming influence, especially during July. Entering the month's final week, Stott is batting .368/.410/.561 with two homers and five RBI.

Stott's unusual, history-making day helped the Phillies snap a four-game losing streak as they continue to battle for a playoff spot in the National League. At 53-46, the Phillies trail the front-running Atlanta Braves (64-34) in the NL East by 11.5 games and the San Francisco Giants by half-a-game for the NL's third and final wild-card spot.
