Phillies' Jean Segura played over 1300 games waiting for Friday's huge playoff moment

Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Jean Segura played his entire 11-year Major League career waiting for Friday afternoon.

The 32-year-old began the day having played 1,328 games without appearing in the postseason, the longest active streak in baseball. The long wait ended when the Phillies took the field against the St. Louis Cardinals for Game 1 of the National League Wildcard series at Busch Stadium.

Segura took full advantage of his first playoff opportunity, helping lead the Phillies to a stunning come-from-behind victory over the Cardinals, 6-3.

With the Phillies trailing 2-1 in the ninth inning, Segura smacked a bases-loaded seeing-eye single through the right side, driving in two runs, including the game-winner.

Halfway down the first base line, Segura leaped with joy as he saw his base hit trickle under the glove of Cardinals' second baseman Tommy Edman and into the outfield.

"It's a lot of adrenaline in my body," Segura said of his enthusiastic leap. "Just like when you give a little kid a toy and just jumping around and happiness."

While Friday's huge base hit was a moment Segura won't soon forget, he remains focused on the task at hand, eliminating the Cardinals on Saturday.

"It's meant a lot, but we still have a long way to go. The job is not finished," Segura said. "We win today. Come back tomorrow and keep playing baseball."
