The Phillies are currently playing at the home of the manager for the National League All-Star squad. Since the Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series, Dave Roberts is the man in charge of selecting reserves and pitchers for the Mid Summer Classic.
Many Phillies will get to make their case, including JT Realmuto, Zack Wheeler, and Bryce Harper.
There’s one Phillies’ player that is starting to feel like more and more of a lock for the team.

The Phillies-Mariners Trade is Paying Off
Affectionately known as James Cigarettes, Jean Segura has been unstoppable of late. Since the start of June and up until the beginning of the Dodgers’ series, Jean has been nothing but a hit machine. He sports a .424 batting average with a 1.032 OPS.
The JP Crawford/Carlos Santana trades feel like it’s finally paying off. In the 3 seasons prior to coming to Philadelphia, Segura batted .319, .300, and .304. In his first 2 seasons in Philly, Jean hit .280 and .267. Not bad, but not .300.
After a sweep of the Yankees, Jean has now raised his BA to .339 this season. It’s starting to feel like a start in the All-Star Game has a high probability. There might be just one obstacle in the way, playing out in western Pennsylvania.
Adam Frazier has been doing almost exactly the same as Jean Segura. Both National League second basemen have an OPS+ of 142. Frazier leads the league in hits and doubles. The biggest separator between the 2 is that Frazier has played more games than Segura this season. It could be the difference between starting the All-Star Game and being a member of the reserves for Segura.
The one thing Segura does have is time. There’s about a month until the All-Star Game. If Jean keeps doing what he’s been doing, he should get the attention of the media and, more importantly, voters.
