Pittsburgh Pirates Director of Sports Medicine Todd Tomczyk met with members of the media to provide injury updates on several players currently on the IL.

Perhaps the biggest news shared is that left-handed pitchers Ryan Borucki and Marco Gonzales, both of whom are on the 60-day injured list, have resumed throwing.

Tomczyk says that both pitchers are out to about 110-115 feet and the expectation is that they will throw off a slope sometime next week. Both Borucki and Gonzales are expected to be back with the Pirates this season.

Borucki made four appearances out of the bullpen this season before he landed on the IL with left triceps inflammation. Gonzales posted a 2.65 ERA in three starts before he was sidelined with a left forearm muscle strain.

Martín Pérez

Pérez is progressing well after he was placed on the injured list with a left groin strain on May 28. He’s playing catch on flat ground with no restrictions or limitations. The Pirates anticipate him throwing off a slope sometime soon, likely this weekend.

Quinn Priester

Priester (right lat muscle strain) is currently asymptomatic at rest and has responded well to treatments and interventions. They are going to reassess the right-hander in five to seven days.

Joey Bart

Bart was diagnosed with a grade-one UCL ligament sprain in his left thumb. He’s halfway through a recommendation of two weeks of no gripping activities and is going to be reassessed next week.

Ji Hwan Bae/Alika Williams

Both Bae and Williams are on the 10-day injured list with different kinds of wrist sprains. Bae received a recommendation of no gripping activities for 10-14 days and will be reassessed after that. Williams received a cortisone shot and and responded well. The Pirates anticipate he will resume light baseball activities later in the week.
