The Pittsburgh Pirates have made it official. They have selected the contract of catcher Henry Davis from Triple-A Indianapolis. The corresponding 26 man roster move will be optioning INF Mark Mathias to Triple-A.

The corresponding 40-man move will be designating RHP Elijah Villalobos for assignment.

Since being acquired by the Pirates, Mathias has had a rough time adjusting to major league pitchers. In 52 at-bats, Mathias is slashing .231/.355/.269 with an OPS of .624.

In his last game played on June 17, Mathias went 0-1 with two walks and a strikeout.

Since getting the call to Triple-A, Davis has played in ten games (35 at-bats) and is slashing .286/.432/.514 with an OPS of .946. Davis slashed .284/.433/.541 at both levels, combined with an OPS of .947 in 183 at-bats.

It is being reported that Davis will bat seventh and play right field Monday night against the Chicago Cubs, which will be his major league debut.
