It was a brilliant day for the Pittsburgh Pirates Triple-A affiliate. Heading into the seventh inning, the Indians had themselves a combined no-hitter.
By the combined efforts of Max Kranick (3.0 IP), Cam Alldred (2.0 IP), and Duane Underwood Jr. (1.0 IP), the Indians were no hitting Omaha.
Osvaldo Bido allowed a hit in the seventh inning after issuing a leadoff walk, but the Indians won after allowing just two hits.
Unfortunately for the Pirates Double-A affiliate in Altoona, their winning streak halted at seven games. The Curve would’ve been shut out if it weren’t for Eli Wilson’s ninth-inning RBI double.
Let’s take a look at all of the Pittsburgh Pirates’ minor league action.
Indianapolis (65-74)
SS Chris Owings
- Game stats: 3-4, a homer, two runs scored, walk, and two RBIs
- Season stats: .242/.348/.456, 15 homers, two triples, 15 doubles, and 37 RBIs (298 at-bats, or 81 games)
LF Canaan Smith-Njigba
- Game stats: 3-5, a double, and an RBI
- Season stats: .267/.354/.450, 13 homers, one triple, 25 doubles, and 63 RBIs (360 at-bats, or 98 games at Triple-A)
The Indians took game three against Omaha 4-1. Until the seventh inning, the Indians were pitching a combined no-hitter until Osvaldo Bido gave up a single to Clay Dugan.
In addition, Max Kranick made another start and had a solid three innings of work. Kranick allowed no hits, no runs, one walk, and struck out one.
Chris Owings had a monster game, giving the Indians half of their run support with a two-run homer in the ninth inning. In addition, Canaan Smith-Njigba had an RBI on a single in the fifth inning.
Altoona (65-67)
RHP Noe Toribio
- Game stats: 2.o IP, one hit, no runs, no walks, and two strikeouts
- Season stats: 2-3, 3.79 ERA, 57.0 IP, 27 walks, and 68 strikeouts in 34 games (no starts)
C Eli Wilson
- Game stats: 1-4, a double, and an RBI
- Season stats: .246/.337/.433, seven homers, one triple, nine doubles, and 27 RBIs (171 at-bats, or 54 games played between High-A and Double-A)
All good things must end, and the Altoona Curve’s seven-game winning streak halted after a brutal 7-1 loss to the Akron Rubber Ducks.
Eli Wilson prevented the shutout in the ninth inning after an RBI double, but that’s all the offense the Curve could muster. In addition, five out of the nine Curve hitters did not record a hit.
