Pittsburgh Pirates president tests positive for coronavirus

The Pittsburgh Pirates confirmed on Thursday that club president Travis Williams has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Per a team statement, Williams first reported COVID-19 symptoms on Monday but is now "on the road to recovery." Williams added:

“Fortunately, I followed the critical health and safety protocols that we have put in place, including wearing a mask as required, maintaining safe social distance and, upon the onset of symptoms, immediately isolating myself and getting tested, which has prevented further impact to others."

The Pirates claimed nobody else associated with the franchise had tested positive for the virus as of Thursday afternoon.

“I am on the road to recovery. In the meantime, I wanted to use my diagnosis as another reminder that we are all susceptible,” Williams explained. "It is critical we all follow CDC guidelines and state mandates, and have a heightened sense of self awareness in order to protect each other. We all must do our part to get through this pandemic together.”

The Miami Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals, and Cincinnati Reds are clubs that have had seasons directly impacted by positive coronavirus tests since the pandemic-shortened campaign began on July 23.
