Congratulations are in order for Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen, who was just named the Pittsburgher of the Year by Pittsburgh Magazine.

From the article:

McCutchen is happy to be back in Pittsburgh, a city he fell in love with when he was in his 20s. It’s why he kept his house in the North Hills even after he was traded. To him, Pittsburgh is like a perfectly fitted outfielder’s glove.

“Pittsburgh has been my second home. It’s where my heart is.”

For his devotion to the city, for his athletic feats on the field, for his philanthropic deeds and for reigniting excitement for the Pirates among fans and players upon his return, Andrew McCutchen has been named Pittsburgher of the Year for 2023.

"Cutch" was appreciative of the honor on social media as well.

McCutchen's return to Pittsburgh was one of the baseball's best "feel-good" stories of 2023. He re-signed with the Pirates again this offseason and will be a team leader in 2024.

McCutchen, who starred for the Pirates from 2009-2017, returned to hit .256 with 12 home runs and 43 RBI in 112 games. He also stole 11 bases and served as that veteran leader on a young team.

He's got 299 career home runs and is one shy of the magic 300 number, so that happening in Pittsburgh will also be a special moment.

Lifetime, McCutchen is a .276 hitter with the 299 homers and 1,045 RBI. He's a five-time All-Star, a four-time Silver Slugger, a Gold Glover and a former MVP.

He's played with the Giants, Yankees, Brewers and Phillies in addition to Pittsburgh.
