Blake Mitchell was born in Clear Lake, Texas, on August 3, 2004.  He played high school baseball at Sinton High School in Sinton, TX. He was the top-ranked catcher and the top overall player in Texas in 2023. In high school, he played in 93 games, and he hit .457 with 34 doubles, five triples, 13 home runs, 98 RBI, 107 runs scored, and 118 walks. On the mound, he appeared in 19 games going 7-0 with a 0.69 ERA, a 0.84 WHIP, and 96 strikeouts in 50.2 innings. Mitchell was the top-ranked catcher nationally and ranked eighth overall. He committed to play college baseball at Louisiana State University.

Mitchell entered the 2023 draft as the 14th overall prospect and the seventh high school prospect. He was drafted by the Kansas City Royals with the eighth overall pick.

Mitchell played last season with the Royals rookie league team playing in 13 games and he slashed .147/.423/.177 with a .600 OPS; he had one double, three RBI, eight runs scored, one stolen base, and 17 walks.
