Mick Abel was born in Portland, Oregon on August 18, 2001. He played high school baseball at Jesuit High School in Beaverton, OR. He was the top-ranked RHP and the top-ranked overall player in Oregon. At Jesuit in his Junior year, he was 10-0 with a 1.26 ERA and 111 strikeouts in 72.1 innings while also batting .294 with 12 runs scored and 14 RBI, his senior season came during COVID and was canceled but entering the season he was named a preseason All-American by MaxPreps and Baseball America.  Abel was ranked the second-ranked RHP in the country and the sixth overall player. He committed to play college baseball at Oregon State University.

Abel was the 11th-ranked prospect entering the 2020 draft and the second-ranked high school prospect. He would end up being drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies with the 15th overall pick.

2021

Abel wasn’t able to pitch after being drafted with the minor league season canceled in 2020 so 2021 was his first year in the Phillies system and he came in as the 99th overall prospect by Baseball America and the 76th prospect by MLB.com. He pitched at Single-A Clearwater making 14 starts going 1-3 with a 4.43 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 44.2 innings.


2022

Abel entered the season as the 51st prospect by Baseball America and 81st by MLB.com. He pitched at High-A Jersey Shore and Double-A Reading making 23 starts going 7-8 with a 3.90 ERA and 130 strikeouts in 108.1 innings.

Abel was ranked by Baseball America as the 40th overall prospect and the 48th overall prospect by MLB.com. He pitched a majority at Double-A Reading and one start at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He combined to make 23 starts going 5-6 with a 4.13 ERA and 132 strikeouts in 113.1 innings. He also got the start at the Futures Game going one inning giving up one hit and striking out two.

Future                                                                   

ITD ranks Abel as the 44th overall prospect and the Phillies second-ranked prospect. He is expected to start the season at Triple-A in 2024.
