Rangers employees 'terrified' for their safety amid COVID-19 outbreak

Multiple Texas Rangers employees tested positive for the coronavirus this week, and now other staff members are uncomfortable with their current situation.

Many staff members hope they'll now be allowed to work from home, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan, and one anonymous employee said there's widespread fear across many of the organization's staff members:

"We are terrified for our safety. Terrified to share COVID-19, unknowingly, with an older employee, a pregnant co-worker, or anyone else who may have some sort of underlying condition. We all knew it would come to this. It was only a matter of time."

The Rangers didn't make a specific order for employees to work at the new Globe Life Field, but staff members say their managers told them working from home was not an option.

Texas, among many states that were in the process of reopening, has announced it's pausing the reopening process after a three-day period in which over 17,000 new coronavirus cases were reported.

Since the outbreak, the Rangers have taken all of the right precautions, including not allowing anyone back into the facility unless they test negative for the virus.

The Major League Baseball season is slated to being on July 23, but if the coronavirus continues to surge in certain areas of the country, then Opening Day might be delayed even longer.
