Rangers land Corey Seager with blockbuster 10-year, $325M deal

The Rangers made a splash Sunday by agreeing to a seven-year deal with All-Star infielder Marcus Semien, but Texas provided a full-fledged cannonball on Monday. According to ESPN's Jeff Passan , the Rangers have agreed to terms on a 10-year, $325 million contract with two-time All-Star shortstop Corey Seager.

The team seemingly confirmed the news with a tweet that hinted at the excitement generated by Passan's report.

Seager, 27, was a first-round pick by the Dodgers in 2012 and earned the National League Rookie of the Year with Los Angeles in 2016. Four years later, he was the 2020 World Series MVP when the Dodgers beat the Tampa Bay Rays in six games, largely thanks to Seager batting .400 with two home runs.

In 2018, Seager missed most of the season after undergoing Tommy John and hip surgeries, but he bounced back to lead the NL in doubles in 2019 and he finished ninth in MVP voting in the abbreviated 2020 season. While a fractured hand cost him more than two months in 2021, Seager still hit .306 on the year.

The Rangers were one of the worst teams in baseball in 2021, finishing the season with a 60-102 record and the third fewest runs scored. Semien played shortstop for most of his career before his All-Star season in 2021 at second base with the Toronto Blue Jays.
