Left-hander Dallas Keuchel officially had his contract purchased by the Texas Rangers on Saturday and was set to make his debut in a start against the visiting Detroit Tigers.

On Friday, the Rangers opened a roster spot by placing left-hander Cole Ragans (calf) on the 15-day injured list.

Keuchel, a former American League Cy Young Award winner, was signed to a minor league deal by Texas in late July after he was released by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Rangers will be third big league team of the season for Keuchel, who is 2-7 with an 8.53 ERA in 12 starts. He went 2-5 with a 7.88 ERA in eight starts for the Chicago White Sox and 0-2 with a 9.64 ERA in four outings for the Diamondbacks.

Keuchel, 34, is 101-89 with a 3.92 ERA in 11 seasons with the Houston Astros (2012-18), Atlanta Braves (2019), White Sox (2020-22) and Diamondbacks (2022).

Keuchel, a two-time All-Star, won the Cy Young Award with the Astros in 2015 when he went 20-8 with a 2.48 ERA and two shutouts in 33 starts.

Keuchel went 1-0 with a 2.31 ERA in four starts at Triple-A Round Rock since joining the Texas organization.

Ragans, 24, is 0-2 with a 4.42 ERA in four starts during his rookie season.
