We’re more than halfway through the first month of the 2025 Minor League season. Week 3 saw multiple high-end prospects have big weeks, while others got promoted to face new challenges. Here’s a recap of what went down over the last seven days.

Keeping up with the Joneses

Yankees prospect Spencer Jones, a 2022 first-round pick, finished in a tie with Jace Bohrofen (TOR) with the most home runs (3) in the Eastern League this week. The former Vandy star ended last week with a 1.002 OPS.

Jones cracked six home runs over his first 15 games of the 2025 season. He’s still striking out at a considerable clip, though, which likely won’t go away. The 23-year-old struck out 33.8% of the time in that stretch.

Another Jones in the Yankees’ organization, 2024 12th-round pick Brendan Jones, had a nice week up north in Hudson Valley (A+). Jones batted .357 with two home runs over his last four games.

Promotions

It didn’t take long for Chase Burns to get a promotion. Burns, who struck out 20 batters over 11.1 IP with Dayton (A+), was moved up to Chattanooga (AA) on April 22. He gave up just five hits with the Dragons.

Meanwhile, the Brewers promoted relief pitcher Craig Yoho, a former eighth-round pick out of Indiana with arguably one of the most unique changeups in baseballs. That pitch helped Yoho strike out 101 batters over 57 frames last season, along with an ERA of 0.94.

Yoho had a 0.00 ERA through 9.2 IP with Nashville (AAA) this season.

The 25-year-old doesn’t have the same kind of changeup compared to Devin Williams, one with spin comparable to a fastball. However, what Yoho’s changeup does have is considerable drop and separation juxtaposed to his two-seamer. Yoho’s changeup can sit as low as 74 MPH and as high as 80, while also working with a mid-90s sinker.

Miami promoted catcher Agustin Ramirez to the big club, months after he was acquired as part of the Marlins’ 2024 sell-off. Joe Mack replaced Ramirez on the Jacksonville (AAA) roster. Mack, a 2021 first-round pick, has steadily rounded out his offensive game and posted a 1.078 OPS with Pensacola (AA) before moving up.

And on April 22, Nick Kurtz joined the Athletics after a dominant run in Las Vegas. Kurtz is currently the PCL leader in home runs (7).

Young pitching prospects dominate the week

It was a good week for several Double-A pitchers.

Jarlin Susana, acquired in the Juan Soto mega trade three years ago by the Nationals, has continued right where he left off in 2024. Susana struck out 10 over 4.2 IP, giving him the Eastern League lead in strikeouts for the time being.

Susana is one ahead of former two-way Oklahoma State star Nolan McLean. McLean notched eight strikeouts over six shutout frames with Binghamton to move to second with 22.

White Sox prospect Wikelman Gonzalez, acquired last December, struck out eight over five scoreless innings. Walks have always been a problem for Gonzalez, and that’s been no different in 2025, as he has 10 over 12 innings in total. The stuff is legit, though.
