Dusty Baker may have hung up his manager’s hat for good, but you probably aren’t going to keep him away from the sport for long.

The retired MLB skipper appeared Friday on 95.7 The Game’s “Steiny and Guru” and made an interesting revelation. Baker said that he is talking to the San Francisco Giants about a potential job with them.

“I’m looking forward to this next chapter,” said Baker. “I’m talking to the Giants. I talked to [team president and CEO] Larry Baer the other day about the possibility of maybe even joining them, and so we just have to see how things work out.”

The 74-year-old Baker announced his retirement as a manager after the 2023 season. He spent the last four seasons at the helm for the Houston Astros, leading them to four straight ALCS berths, two AL pennants and a World Series victory in 2022.

Baker has a rich history with the Giants as they were his first-ever MLB manager job from 1993-2002, which included an appearance in the 2002 World Series. He had earlier stints in San Francisco as a player and a coach before becoming their skipper.

Now some 21 years after he left, Baker could be returning to the Bay. It is unclear if he would be getting a front-office role or a small position with the Giants. But it would be a fitting homecoming for Baker, who revealed a few months ago what his plans might look like.
