Most members of the 2023 Boston Red Sox would like to leave this season behind, and one pitcher has already elected to do just that.
Kyle Barraclough had a fairly successful year pitching for the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox, but he will be moving on from the organization this offseason.
Barraclough elected free agency Tuesday evening per the MiLB transaction log. The 33-year-old signed with the Red Sox back in June and provided Worcester with a serviceable arm upon his arrival.
The righty had a 3.65 ERA with a 62-to-45 strikeout-to-walk ratio, .204 batting average against and a 1.31 WHIP in 74 innings pitched across 14 games.
Barraclough's success in Worcester led to a few call-ups by the Red Sox, mostly due to a lack of arms in the majors. Unfortunately, his success was far from replicated when he took the mound for Boston.
After two solid outings against the Detroit Tigers, he was called up again to shut down the Houston Astros -- that did not happen.
Barraclough allowed 10 earned runs in 4 1/3 innings against the Astros -- in what appears to be his last outing with the Red Sox. His horrid night inflated his numbers, leaving the journeyman with a 12.91 ERA this season.
