Red Sox manager Alex Cora used to brag about stealing World Series with Astros, according to new book

Alex Cora used to brag to members of the Boston Red Sox about how the Houston Astros stole the 2017 World Series, according to a new book written by The Athletic's Evan Drellich.

In "Winning Fixes Everything," a member of the Red Sox said that when they would start drinking Cora would brag about the Astros' cheating scandal, allegedly saying, "We stole that f****** World Series," according to the Boston Herald:

“We knew the Astros did [steal signs],” another member of the Red Sox told Drellich, “because Alex Cora told us. He said that when they played the Dodgers, ‘We already knew what everybody was throwing before we even got on base. We didn’t have to get on base.’ And everybody was like, ‘What the hell does that mean?’ ”

While the book focuses primarily on the Astros, it also goes into the illegal methods used by other teams around the league, including the Red Sox.

Before Cora was hired as the Red Sox manager in 2018, they were caught using an Apple Watch to steal signs under former manager John Farrell.

Cora was a bench coach with the Astros team that was punished for its sign-stealing scandal throughout the 2017 season and playoffs. Cora played a key role in the sign stealing.

He was suspended for the entire 2020 season as part of Major League Baseball's findings, while he and the Red Sox parted ways. Then, prior to the 2021 season he was rehired and has served as the team's manager since.

At this point everybody already knows the extent to which the 2017 Astros cheated, and Cora and the Astros were already punished for it. Still, hearing about how he allegedly bragged about it after the fact to his new team, almost as if he was proud of it, will certainly not do him any additional favors in the court of public opinion.
