Red Sox P Chris Sale underwent successful Tommy John Surgery

You can add another Major League Baseball player to the list of athletes who have undergone surgery amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Boston Red Sox ace Chris Sale underwent successful Tommy John surgery on Monday, according to the Red Sox. The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAtrrache at the Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles.

Sale's surgery was deemed worthy by ElAttrache due to the impact it would have on his career if he waited longer to get it done.

The lefty has suffered from elbow soreness for some time now, and Tommy John surgery was inevitable for the 31-year-old. With the MLB season on pause, it was the perfect time for Sale to have the surgery.

Tommy John surgery takes about 12-15 months to recover from provided there are no complications, so Sale will miss the entirety of the 2020 season and could miss part of the 2021 campaign.

He struggled in 2019, going 6-11 with a 4.40 ERA and 1.086 WHIP. Hopefully, the elbow surgery turns him back into the player he once was for Boston.

Sale isn't the only pitcher who has undergone the surgery. New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard had it last week and is doing well.
