The Boston Red Sox are taking a chance on a former member of the New York Yankees.

Boston has made a plethora of moves this offseason but still is lacking a home run swing. The Red Sox have made a few intriguing additions this offseason and if they could land someone like Jordan Montgomery, perceptions around the club could completely change.

The Red Sox have made a handful of depth moves, as well this offseason. Boston has been looking to improve the organization and continued to add Saturday by signing former Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, and Atlanta Braves hurler Lucas Luetge, according to the hurler's social media.

"Year 17 and heading back to the Northeast," Luetge said. "Excited to join the Red Sox organization!"

Luetge was selected in the 21st round of the 2008 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. He has spent the majority of his professional career in the minor leagues but made his big league debut with the Mariners in 2012.

The veteran lefty spent the first four years of his big league career with the Mariners from 2012 to 2015. He became a free agent and left Seattle ahead of the 2016 season. He didn't see time at the big league level again until 2021 but had two straight impressive seasons with the Yankees.

Luetge appeared in 107 games with the Yankees throughout the 2021 and 2022 campaigns and logged a 2.71 ERA and 138-to-32 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 129 2/3 innings pitched.

He only appeared in 12 games with the Braves in 2023 and struggled but he is an intriguing depth option for the Red Sox. He has shown he can perform at the big league level and if he can return to his 2022 form, he could make an impact with the club. If he struggles, it won't cause Boston any harm.
