Red Sox will be 'aggressive' in search for pitching this offseason

The Boston Red Sox are having a rough season two years removed from winning the World Series. The club's pitching staff, in particular, has been horrendous and owns Major League Baseball's highest ERA at 6.12. 

On top of that, Boston has allowed the most home runs (83), most earned runs (281) and most hits (478) this season. While the Red Sox are missing Chris Sale (Tommy John surgery) and Eduardo Rodriguez (heart condition) this year, the poor performances are alarming. 

Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom revealed on WEEI's "The Greg Hill Show" that the team will, unsurprisingly, search for pitching help during the offseason. 

Martin Perez and Nathan Eovaldi are the only traditional starters currently deployed by the Red Sox. They use pitchers from their bullpen to cover the remainder of games before Perez and Eovaldi are available to start again. 

Sale and Rodriguez are expected to be back for the 2021 campaign, but you have to expect the Red Sox to look into some of the league's top available free agents.

The Red Sox enter Monday with a league-worst 17-31 record. They have no shot at making the playoffs at this point, and they've let many of their minor leaguers get major league action this season because of that.
