Reds activate one-time All-Star SP Mike Minor from IL for Friday start vs. Nationals
Starting pitcher Mike Minor was traded from the Kansas City Royals to the Cincinnati Reds nearly three months ago, before the 2022 campaign began. The veteran lefty will finally make his season debut on Friday.
The No. 7 overall pick of the Atlanta Braves in 2009, Minor is beginning his 11th MLB season and first with the Reds after spending time with the Braves, Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics. He went 8-12 with a 5.05 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 28 starts covering 158 2/3 innings in 2021 but is only three years removed from his lone All-Star appearance.
In 2019 with the Rangers, Minor went 14-10 with a 3.59 ERA and 1.23 WHIP to go along with a career-high 200 strikeouts in a career-high 208 1/3 innings pitched. His 14 wins that year were the most of his career as well, he led MLB in wins above replacement (WAR) for pitchers (8.0) and he finished eighth in the AL Cy Young voting that season.
In 276 career games (209 starts), Minor has a 79-78 record with a 4.11 ERA and 1.22 WHIP.
