Reds former MVP lending his voice to 'The SpongeBob Musical'

Longtime Cincinnati Reds star first baseman Joey Votto turned 40 earlier this month and his MLB career is likely coming to a close soon.
His voice-acting career could just be getting started this fall, however.

Votto is a native of Toronto and has been described as possibly "the most interesting man in baseball" in the past. The 2010 NL MVP is fluent in French, which will obviously come in handy for his upcoming role.

Votto passed Hall-of-Famer Larry Walker for first place on the all-time list for games played by a Canadian in August 2022.

The six-time All-Star and 2011 Gold Glove Award winner was selected by the Reds in the second round of the 2002 MLB June Amateur Draft and made his big-league debut with the club in 2007.

"We are so thankful to Joey Votto and his team for being a part of the 23-24 TCT Season," TCT CEO Kim Kern said, according to a TMZ Sports report. "Our audiences will enjoy hearing a Cincinnati icon bring this character to life.

Despite playing in 2,050 career regular season games over 17 seasons, Votto has only made the playoffs four times and has never made it past the division series.

The Reds are all but eliminated from contention in the NL Central but enter Friday right in the thick of the wild-card chase. Cincinnati trails both the Miami Marlins and Chicago Cubs by a half-game for the third and final wild-card spot in the senior circuit.
