With each game proving more vital for the Halos by the day due to their current divisional standings, it was another night to forget for Angels' starter Reid Detmers.

In a heated divisional matchup, Detmers failed to get out of the third inning, pulling the plug on another chapter of a lackluster year from the young rotational piece.

“To be honest I don’t really know. “We’re just going to have some conversations about what’s going on. Obviously it’s a rough patch. Just trust the process and keep your head down and keep working, which isn’t a problem. I pride myself in trusting in the process, keep working. Obviously I’ve had rough times before. It’s not gonna be the last time. It’s definitely frustrating. Just gotta get over this hump. I’m trying to get quick outs. Obviously things just didn’t go my way today.”

Over his last six starts, Detmers' season ERA has risen by a 1.5, including his past two starts where he failed to register a quality start and gave up seven runs in each.

Against the Astros, Detmers gave up not one, but two home runs to Jon Singleton, who hadn't hit a major league home run since 2015 with Houston as well.

Showing flashes early in his career, even tossing a no hitter, Detmers' decline could not be at a worse time for Anaheim with little margin for error to rescue their season.

Losing to Houston by eight runs, the loss sent the Angels back to under .500 and the team remains over 6 games out of a Wild Card spot.

If the Angels want any chance to help their fatigued two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani get to the postseason, Detmers' improved performance will be vital in that operation that now seems all the more unlikely.
