Toronto Blue Jays executive James Click is staying with the organization this off-season, at least for now.

Click was reportedly being considered for the Boston Red Sox’s vacant top executive position but has decided to withdraw from the race, citing family reasons, according to The Boston Globe’s Alex Speier . The team dismissed chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom on Sept. 14.

Click joins a long list of high-ranking executives to have turned down the Red Sox recently, including Minnesota Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey, Philadelphia Phillies GM Sam Fuld and Los Angeles Dodgers GM Brandon Gomes, as previously reported by The Athletic’s Chad Jennings.

WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford also reported former Texas Rangers president of baseball operations Jon Daniels declined an interview with Boston’s organization. To this point, Twins GM Thad Levine is the only known candidate to have interviewed for the front office gig.

Bloom and Click previously worked together for several years at Baseball Prospectus, where they created a strong relationship that remains existent to this day.

The 45-year-old spent almost 15 years with the Tampa Bay Rays before being named the Houston Astros’ GM in 2020. Fresh off winning the 2022 World Series, he departed the franchise after turning down a one-year contract extension, ultimately joining the Blue Jays’ front office as their VP of baseball strategy.

It wouldn’t be shocking if Click seeks interest in other executive positions throughout this winter.
