Report: Canada reviewing plan for Blue Jays to play in Toronto

With the Toronto Blue Jays experiencing a coronavirus outbreak among personnel working at the club's facilities in Dunedin, Fla., Major League Baseball has reportedly submitted a plan to Canadian health authorities for the Blue Jays to host regular-season games at Rogers Centre.

The Associated Press (h/t ESPN) reported Wednesday afternoon that the Public Health Agency of Canada was reviewing the MLB proposal one day after Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams hinted the Blue Jays may not be able to face opponents in Toronto because of quarantine guidelines.

The Canadian border remains shut to non-essential American personnel through at least July 21, and executives from MLB and the NHL have feared that players would have to self-isolate for 14 days before competing in any Canadian city. Such rules would remove Toronto from baseball's 60-game season that includes clubs playing at home ballparks and is scheduled to begin in late July.

Like the Blue Jays, the Philadelphia Phillies also temporarily closed spring training facilities located in Florida last week due to a virus outbreak.
