Report: Dodgers close to trade to acquire Tigers OF Trayce Thompson

Outfielder Trayce Thompson spent two seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers early in his MLB career and he may be headed back to the team soon. According to Juan Toribio of MLB.com , the Dodgers are close to a deal to acquire Thompson from the Detroit Tigers.

Thompson, 31, made his MLB debut with the Chicago White Sox in 2015 and was acquired by the Dodgers in a three-team trade later that year. During his two-year, 107-game stint with Los Angeles, Thompson batted .207 with 14 home runs and 34 RBIs.

He was designated for assignment by the Dodgers and bounced between the New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics and White Sox early in the 2018 season before he was DFA'd by Chicago in June. Thompson was called up by the Chicago Cubs late in the 2021 season.

This year, Thompson appeared in six games with the San Diego Padres before he was DFA'd and acquired by the Tigers on a minor league deal.

The Dodgers are in need of some help in the outfield after star right fielder Mookie Betts cracked a rib last week. Earlier in June, Los Angeles also lost outfielder Kevin Pillar when he suffered a season-ending shoulder fracture.

Thompson is the younger brother of Golden State Warriors five-time NBA All-Star Klay Thompson.
