According to one MLB insider, the White Sox could be exploring a blockbuster trade of sorts with the Dodgers.

This afternoon, Jim Bowden of The Athletic released seven trade proposals based on some of what he has been hearing within the baseball industry. His first trade highlighted the White Sox and Dodgers – the latter of whom is apparently targeting three White Sox players: RHP Lucas Giolito, RHP Kendall Graveman, and SS Tim Anderson

Bowden suggests that the Dodgers and White Sox would be a strong pairing because of the Dodgers’ prospect depth. In return, the White Sox could be looking at a strong package of names, highlighted by one of the Dodgers’ top two catching prospects – Diego Cartaya or Dalton Rushing.

Bowden wrote the following:

“In return, the Dodgers could offer one of their top two catching prospects, Diego Cartaya or Dalton Rushing, as the headliner, along with one of their second-base prospects, Jorbit Vivas or Rayne Doncon, and a starting pitching prospect such as Gavin Stone or Michael Grove. Other prospect combinations could work. The Dodgers’ system is so deep there are many variations to make a deal like this work for both sides.

Based on Bowden’s comments, it appears that the White Sox would stand to gain a lot of value by trading Anderson at the deadline along with two of their more well-known trade chips. Here are some numbers on the prospects mentioned by Bowden:

  • C Diego Cartaya (21 years old, AA): 284 PA, .187/.268/.345, 61 wRC+, 29.2 K%, 7.7 BB%
  • C Dalton Rushing (22 years old, A+): 267 PA, .256/.423/.483, 159 wRC+, 24.0 K%, 19.5 BB%
  • 2B Jorbit Vivas (22 years old, AA): 360 PA, .297/.402/.467, 133 wRC+, 10.8 K%, 10.6 BB%
  • 2B Rayne Doncon (19 years old, A): 374 PA, .223/.291/.386, 81 wRC+, 20.1 K%, 8.0 BB%
  • RHP Gavin Stone (24 years old, AAA/MLB): 65.2 IP (AAA), 6.03 ERA, 5.17 FIP, 26.5 K%, 10.7 BB%
  • RHP Michael Grove (26 years old, AAA/MLB): 52.0 IP (MLB), 6.40 ERA, 4.83 FIP, 20.4 K%, 7.4 BB%

Vivas and either Rushing or Cartaya would certainly be the most intriguing to the White Sox, as Vivas provides a middle infield left-handed bat, while both Rushing or Cartaya would add a legitimate catching prospect to an organization that is currently lacking one. Both Grove and Stone are intriguing arms that could use some more development, though the Dodgers haven’t exactly had that sort of luxury of time to develop these players with so many pitchers going down with injuries this season. Some sort of combination of these players – perhaps Rushing, Vivas, and Stone – could convince the White Sox to make a big move at the deadline.

Stay tuned as we get closer to the deadline, as more of these rumors will likely soon turn to changes in teams.
