Report: Dodgers interested in trading for Frankie Montas, Luis Castillo

The Los Angeles Dodgers may be shopping for starting pitching ahead of this year's trade deadline.

According to z101digital's Hector Gomez, the Dodgers are showing interest in Oakland A's Frankie Montas and Cincinnatti Reds Luis Castillo.

Montas, 29, is in his seventh major league season and sixth with the Athletics. This season, in 15 starts, Montas has a record of 3-7 with a 3.21 ERA. Last season, Montas went 13-9 with a 3.37 ERA in 32 starts, finishing sixth in the American League Cy Young voting.

Castillo is in his sixth season in the majors, all coming with the Reds. The 29-year-old has a 2-4 record with a 3.71 ERA in nine starts this season. Castillo was an All-Star in 2019, going 15-8 with a 3.40 ERA in 32 starts.

Understandably, Montas and Castillo have been hot names on the rumor mill since the start of the season. Most recently, the two have been linked to the New York Yankees.

As a team, the Dodgers have posted an impressive 2.94 ERA. However, they've been stretched thin, with several pitchers on the injured list.

Andrew Heaney was put on the 10-day IL earlier this week with left shoulder inflammation

Danny Duffy is still recovering from a left elbow injury but could return before the end of the month.

Walker Buehler hasn't pitched since June 10 and is expected to miss at least another three months with a Grade 2 flexor strain

Dustin May, still recovering from Tommy John surgery, isn't expected back until August or September.

The Dodgers bullpen hasn't been immune to injury, with Blake Treinen, Caleb Ferguson, Tommy Kahnle, Victor Gonzalez, Jimmy Nelson and Daniel Hudson currently on the IL.
