Report: Free-agent closer Roberto Osuna to hold showcase for MLB teams

Free-agent closer Roberto Osuna is scheduled to host a showcase in front of Major League Baseball scouts in the Dominican Republic with the intention of showing that he's ready to pitch again in the big leagues.

According to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, the showcase will take place on March 12 at Tetelo Vargas Stadium.

After spending two-and-a-half seasons in Houston, the Astros placed Osuna on waivers in October 2020 due to an elbow injury. He was initially recommended to undergo Tommy John surgery, but a second opinion caused him to rehab the injury without surgery.

During the 2019 campaign, the 26-year-old went 4-3 with a 2.63 ERA, 0.877 WHIP and 73 strikeouts in 65 innings. He also earned 38 saves.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres and L.A. Angels have been linked to Osuna this winter. It's unclear if those teams are still interested.
