Report: Mets likely won't pursue Twins ace Jose Berrios

The New York Mets acquired veteran left-handed starting pitcher Rich Hill from the Tampa Bay Rays ahead of the weekend and may not be finished yet.

According to Andy Martino of SNY, the Mets are "all over the pitching market" ahead of Friday's trade deadline. While Martino reiterated previous reports that the Amazins could target Tyler Anderson of the Pittsburgh Pirates or even Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer, he added that they likely won't pursue Jose Berrios of the Minnesota Twins because "the prospect cost for Berrios is simply too high at the moment."

The Mets were linked with Berrios last week.

Martino's update interestingly comes as the Mets are on the cusp of having a full rotation. Mike Puma of the New York Post noted Sunday that veteran right-hander Carlos Carrasco could make his big-league debut with the club as soon as this week as he works to return from the torn hamstring he first suffered in March, and ace Jacob deGrom is on track to be activated off the injured list in early August as he recovers from right forearm tightness.

The Mets began Monday at 52-44 and in first place in the National League East standings, four games ahead of the second-place Philadelphia Phillies.
