Report: Mets' Robert Gsellman done for season due to fractured rib

It seems the New York Mets suffered a literal injury to insult during Tuesday's 11-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reported Wednesday afternoon that the Mets believe right-hander Robert Gsellman is done for the year due to a fractured rib.

Gsellman took the bump during Tuesday's blowout loss for a stint as a long reliever. He tossed 76 pitches before he abruptly left the game in the eighth inning with what was first described as a left oblique injury. A fractured rib would almost certainly sideline the 27-year-old through the fall.

Gsellman missed the start of the campaign because of a triceps injury and didn't debut this summer until an Aug. 8 appearance versus the Miami Marlins. In 14 innings of work across six games, he compiled a 9.64 ERA with nine strikeouts. He surrendered four home runs and eight walks with the Amazins in 2020.
