Report: Padres agree to deal with right-hander Keone Kela

The San Diego Padres have been one of the most active teams in Major League Baseball this winter. That continued on Monday.

According to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, the Padres have agreed to a deal with free-agent right-hander Keone Kela. The financials of Kela's deal are not yet known.

Kela appeared in just three games for the Pittsburgh Pirates during the pandemic-shortened campaign after missing time due to injury and being placed on the COVID-19 list. He had a 4.50 ERA, 2.000 WHIP and three strikeouts in two innings.

The 27-year-old is 21-11 in his six-year career with a 3.24 ERA, 1.122 WHIP and 266 strikeouts in 216.2 innings. He has also played for the Texas Rangers.

San Diego has added Blake Snell, Yu Darvish, Ha-Seong Kim and Victor Caratini this winter and re-signed Jurickson Profar, among other moves.
